Physics Topologies: Jets + MET

Goal of Jet+MEt Topology Group

The CMS SUSY and EXOTICA groups have a set of vigorous programs to discover new particle(s). The LPC Jet+MEt topology group will help such CMS programs in the following final states:

  • ETmiss + Jets
  • ETmiss + Jets + τ's
  • ETmiss + Jets + b's (e.g., H→bb)
  • ETmiss + Jets + t's (e.g., gluino → tt + neutralino)

Those states are expected from Beyond the Standard Model (BSM), such as supersymmetry (SUSY) with R parity, Universal Extra Dimentions (UEDs), Littlest Higgs with T-parity (LHT) and other models. Further, we actively pursue BSM models that are consistent with various astronomical observations of the cold dark matter (CDM). For example, the lightest neutralino in SUSY, first KK-excitation of photon in UED, and heavy photon (AH) in LHT are neutral and colorless weakly interacting stable paricles, each being a candidate for the DM particle.

As a group, we will actively involed in various common tasks such as τ ID, b tagging, and missing ET clean-up/calculation/correction in the CMS SUSY and EXOTICA groups to maximize the success of the CMS new particle hunting in the initial conditions up to 1 fb-1 for now. This obviously also leads us to make strong connections with dijet topology group and τ/b object groups.

We also maintain communications between between us and theorists, so various common physics issues to those analyses are transparent among people or groups. We will arrange invited talks to highlight the important issues that straddle the boundaries of these intersecting topics.
