Getting Started

Get a LPC analysis cluster computing account & FNAL ID/accounts at Fermilab

Directions can be found at this link to obtain a Fermilab ID/accounts together with a LPC Analysis Cluster account. There are also directions to only get a cmslpc analysis cluster account if you already have Fermilab accounts.

Note: You do not have an EOS T3_US_FNALLPC SE area by default unless you provided your grid certificate upon account application: follow directions at the Using EOS at the LPC page for more information.

Register Computer for the Fermilab Network

This is needed if you will be onsite at Fermilab, and requires your Fermilab Services username and password. If you do not yet have a Services username and password, instructions are here for visitors to connect to the internet. See the getting Fermilab accounts link to obtain a Services username/password.

To register your computer, follow the directions at this link: https://fermi.service-now.com/kb_view_customer.do?sysparm_article=KB0011206. Registration is completed during business hours and it can take up to a day to be completed with email confirmations to let the user know when different steps were performed.

  • Note: The Institutional owned device link (MISCOMP) is only accessible onsite, you may register your computer as "Personal" if you are offsite for this form
  • Note: Mac OSX 10.9, 10.10 and Windows 10 Linux subsystem (the subsystem only) are disallowed on the Fermilab network.

Getting a CERN account

Contact your Institute's "team leader" as they will fill out a pre-registration for a new CMS CERN account. Directions on how to get an account at CERN and register as a member of CMS which are useful for the applicant and team leader can be found on Section 1.2 Getting a Computing Account of the CMS Offline WorkBook.

Getting a Personal Grid Certificate from CERN

A personal grid certificate from CERN can be obtained by following the instructions on this WorkBookStartingGrid twiki. Once one has a CERN account, a certificate can be obtained from https://ca.cern.ch/ca/. For a longer set of instructions, the twiki above should be sufficient, but we have duplicated some steps on the cmslpc getting a grid certificate web page.

Connecting to the LPC Analysis Cluster

Directions on how to setup and connect to the LPC Analysis cluster can be found at this link.

Guidelines for LPC Analysis Cluster Users

General guidelines for the LPC Analysis Cluster Users can be found at this link, although more detailed information for certain topics (EOS, condor batch system) can be found in the LPC Analysis Cluster Computing Environment link.

LPC Analysis Cluster Computing Environment

More information about the LPC Analysis Cluster computing environment and technologies can be found at this link. Included is information about software setup, EOS, crab, and the condor batch system at the LPC.

System Status

Links to monitor LPC system status can be found here.

LPC Computing links

LPC Computing Quick links and resources for Getting Help at the LPC can be found at the external LPC Computing pages. Also take note of the different category links to the right and the left of these US CMS at Work web pages.
